Your Purpose Was Settled Before the World Had an Opinion.
Your Purpose Was Settled Before the World Had an Opinion.
Can I tell you something?
Lately, I've had to be intentional about what gets my attention.
It's so easy to wake up and immediately be pulled into the noise. The headlines. Social media. The comparison game. The pressure of things that haven't happened yet. The opinions of people who don't even know your story. Before you know it, your mind is crowded before your day has even started.
But while reading Psalm 2 recently, God reminded me of something I needed to hear.
"The noise of the world will never overpower the voice of the King."
Psalm 2 opens with a question:
"Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?"
Psalm 2:1That word rage stood out to me. Because honestly, doesn't it feel like there's a lot of raging these days?
The world is loud.
People are loud.
Fear is loud.
Doubt is loud.
Sometimes even the thoughts in our own heads are loud.
For a long time, I thought that if something felt loud enough, it must deserve my attention. But God showed me that volume and authority are not the same thing.
He who sits in the heavens laughs
As I kept reading, I came to verse 4:
"He who sits in the heavens laughs."
Psalm 2:4That verse stopped me.
God isn't worried.
He's not pacing the floor.
He's not trying to figure out Plan B.
He's seated.
He's reigning.
He's completely unmoved by the things that keep us up at night.
And if I'm honest, I realized I had been losing sleep over things that weren't even causing God concern. I had been giving space in my mind to voices God wasn't even listening to.
"The noise is real. But it was never meant to lead you."
One thing I've learned during seasons of waiting, healing, and wondering what's next is that the world will always have something to say. There will always be another opinion. Another criticism. Another reason to doubt yourself. But God's voice doesn't compete with all that. It cuts right through it.
The decree still stands
Later in Psalm 2, God speaks of His decree, His established word. And it reminded me that before anyone formed an opinion about you, God already knew who you were.
Before someone underestimated you.
Before someone rejected you.
Before someone questioned your calling.
Before you questioned yourself.
God had already spoken purpose over your life.
What He said wasn't dependent on public opinion then, and it isn't now. The raging didn't cancel His plan. The plotting didn't stop His purpose. And whatever you're facing today isn't bigger than the God who called you.
What this means for you today
Maybe you're waiting for a breakthrough.
Maybe you're still healing from something painful.
Maybe you're wondering if the dream God placed in your heart will ever happen.
Friend, don't let the noise make you forget what God said.
His voice is still steady.
His promises are still true.
And your purpose is still intact.
Spend five quiet minutes today asking God, "What have You said about me?" Then write down what Scripture says is true about who you are. Let His voice be louder than every other voice competing for your attention.
