Here Comes the Dreamer - Devotional (Day Four)
When People Forget You
“The chief cupbearer, however, did not remember Joseph; he forgot him.” (Genesis 40:23, NIV)
Have you ever done something for someone, poured your heart into helping them, only to have them act like you never existed? Maybe you gave them your time, your resources, your insider knowledge, thinking, Surely, when I need them, they’ll show up for me. But when your moment came? Crickets.
Joseph knew that feeling. He helped the cupbearer by interpreting his dream—a moment that should have changed Joseph’s situation. Joseph asked for one thing in return: “Don’t forget me when you’re restored.” But the cupbearer did forget, leaving Joseph in prison for two more years. Can you imagine how painful that must have been?
I remember a time when I experienced something similar. I gave someone all my best advice and tools to succeed. I showed up for them every step of the way, thinking they’d have my back when I needed it. But when the tables turned, they were nowhere to be found. I was crushed. I felt invisible. But God whispered something that changed my perspective: “Your help doesn’t come from them—it comes from Me.”
Sometimes God allows people to forget you so that you remember where your true source lies. When Joseph was forgotten by the cupbearer, God was still moving behind the scenes. He didn’t just remember Joseph; He elevated him at the right time, placing him in a position far beyond anything the cupbearer could’ve done for him.
Even when people forget, God remembers. He hasn’t forgotten the dreams He’s given you or the promises He’s spoken over your life. You’re not overlooked, and you’re certainly not invisible to Him.
So if you feel like people have left you out, don’t worry. God is still writing your story, and when the time comes, nothing and no one can stop His plan for your life.
Declaration: God, I trust You to bring me to the right place at the right time. I am not forgotten.
Prayer: Father, thank You for always remembering me. When I feel overlooked, remind me that my help comes from You and You alone. Strengthen my faith and help me to trust Your perfect timing.

Thought Questions:
Who or what are you waiting on that feels overdue?
How can you shift your trust from people to God?
