The Good in the Hard - Day Three (Devotional)

Day 3: The Good in the Hard

Scripture:
"But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance."– Genesis 45:7

Devotional:
I’ll never forget being bullied in school. There were always kids who had something to say, but one girl stood out above the rest. She didn’t miss a day—every single day, she found a way to pick at me. My clothes. My hair. My smile. She made it her mission to make me feel small.

Years later, I received a message from her on social media. And guess what? She wasn’t messaging me to apologize. She needed my help. I wish I could tell you I immediately felt compassion, but I didn’t. I struggled. Everything in me wanted to leave her on read or type something petty. But as I sat with it, I realized something: everything she did to hurt me had actually propelled me toward my purpose.

It reminds me of Joseph’s story. Can you imagine the moment he saw his brothers again? The same brothers who betrayed him, sold him, and left him for dead? Joseph had every reason to be bitter. But by the time he stood before them, he could look back and see how God had been faithful all along. I like to think Joseph took a mental walk down memory lane—remembering the betrayal, the slavery, the prison, even being forgotten by those he helped—and saw that none of it was wasted. Every single moment, God was using what was meant to harm him for something good.

Joseph didn’t respond to his brothers with bitterness. He responded with grace. “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good.” That’s not just a testimony; that’s a perspective shift. It’s looking at what broke you and realizing it didn’t break you at all—it built you.

God doesn’t promise us a life without challenges. That heartbreak? That rejection? That detour you didn’t see coming? He never said it wouldn’t hurt, but He does promise that it won’t be wasted. God is weaving every moment into a masterpiece—a story of redemption, healing, and glory.

Let Joseph’s story remind you of this truth: nothing is too broken for God to fix. What feels hard now will one day reveal His goodness, not just in spite of the pain but because of it. Sometimes, the hardest seasons of life are the ones that set us up for the greatest victories.

Declaration:
What was meant for harm, God is turning into good. His purpose will prevail in my life.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for bringing beauty out of brokenness. Thank You for taking what the enemy meant for harm and using it for Your glory. Help me to trust You, even when life feels hard, and remind me that every season has a purpose. Amen.

Thought Question:
How has God brought good out of a hard season in your life before? How can you remind yourself of His faithfulness today?
