The Good in the Hard - Day Two (Devotional)

Day 2: Trusting in the Waiting

Scripture:
“So they went up out of Egypt and came to their father Jacob in the land of Canaan. They told him, ‘Joseph is still alive! In fact, he is ruler of all Egypt.’ Jacob was stunned; he did not believe them.” – Genesis 45:25-26

Devotional:
Waiting is hard. I’m not just talking about standing in line at the grocery store or sitting in traffic. I’m talking about the soul-deep waiting—the kind where you’re holding your breath, praying for a breakthrough, and feeling like you’re stuck in the in-between, wondering if God has forgotten about you.

If I’m real with you, patience isn’t my strong suit. If I see a way to make something happen, my first instinct is to take control. But here’s what I’ve learned: sometimes the best results come not from what I can do, but from what God is working out behind the scenes while I wait.

Joseph knew all about waiting. After enduring years of betrayal, slavery, and imprisonment, he finally stepped into his purpose as a leader in Egypt. Yet, even in his position of authority, Joseph was waiting. Waiting to see his family. Waiting to embrace his father again. And when the moment finally came—when Jacob heard that Joseph was alive—there was still another waiting period. Jacob had to travel from Canaan to Egypt, and Joseph had to trust God for the timing of their reunion.

Can you imagine the anticipation in Joseph’s heart as he waited for his father to arrive? Every step of Jacob’s journey must have felt like an eternity. But here’s what’s beautiful: that waiting period gave way to something far greater than Joseph could have imagined—restoration.

God wasn’t just writing a story of survival for Joseph; He was crafting a story of redemption, healing, and fulfillment.

That’s the truth we need to hold on to in our own waiting seasons. It may feel like nothing is happening, but God is always working. In the waiting, God strengthens your character, deepens your faith, and aligns every detail of His purpose for your life.

So if you find yourself in a season of waiting—waiting for healing, for reconciliation, for clarity—remember this: the waiting isn’t wasted. God’s timing is never late, and His plans for you are still good. Trust Him, even when you can’t see what’s ahead.

Declaration:
God’s timing is perfect, and I trust Him to fulfill His promises in my life.

Prayer:

Lord, waiting feels heavy, and I admit there are moments when I want to rush ahead. But I know You are faithful. Help me to trust that You are working in my life, even in the unseen moments. Strengthen my faith and give me peace as I wait for the fullness of Your promises. Amen.

Thought Question:
What’s one area of your life where you’ve been tempted to take control instead of trusting God? How can you give that area back to Him today?
