Day 2: The Weight of the Wait
Scripture: Matthew 11:28-30 (NKJV)
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
Devotional:
There’s a unique kind of heaviness that comes with waiting. It’s not the kind of weight you can put down or walk away from—it’s an invisible burden that follows you everywhere. It’s the longing for a prayer to be answered, the ache for a promise to be fulfilled, and the heaviness of carrying hope when the evidence around you says otherwise.
I think of Hannah in the Bible, a woman whose waiting was defined by both hope and heartbreak. Year after year, she went to the temple, pouring her heart out to God for the child she longed for. The weight of waiting was so heavy that even her prayers came out like sobs. But what I love about Hannah’s story is that she didn’t try to carry the weight alone. She brought it to God. She laid her tears, her ache, and her hope at His feet. And in her surrender, she found peace—not because her waiting ended in that moment, but because she trusted the One she was waiting on.
Waiting requires that same trust from us. Jesus invites us to bring the weight to Him, to exchange our heaviness for His rest. That doesn’t mean the wait will end immediately or that the ache will disappear overnight. But it does mean that you don’t have to carry it alone. He promises to shoulder the burden with you, to give you peace in the process, and to hold you steady when the weight feels unbearable.
The question is, will you let Him?
Declaration:
I declare that I am not carrying this weight alone. Jesus is my strength, and His rest is my portion.
Thought Question:
What weight are you carrying in this season? How can you invite Jesus into your waiting and allow Him to carry it with you?

Prayer:
Lord, the weight of waiting feels heavy some days, and I don’t know how to carry it. But You promised that I don’t have to do it alone. Help me to release my burdens to You and to trust that Your rest is exactly what I need. Thank You for being my strength when I feel weak and my peace when the waiting feels overwhelming. In Jesus’ name, amen.
