Here Comes the Dreamer - Devotional (Day Five)

 The Promise is Still Alive

“So Pharaoh said to Joseph, ‘I hereby put you in charge of the whole land of Egypt.’” (Genesis 41:41, NIV)

Devotion:

You ever look at your life and think, How did I get here? Not in a good way, but in that what happened to the dream? kind of way. You’re staring at a pile of setbacks, delays, and closed doors, wondering if you’ll ever see what God promised.

Joseph knew that feeling. He sat in the pit, worked as a slave, and waited in prison. None of it looked like the dream God gave him. I can imagine him wondering, Did I hear God wrong? Is this dream even real? But here’s the thing about God—He doesn’t just fulfill promises. He exceeds them. When the time came, Joseph wasn’t just freed from prison; he was elevated to a position that changed the course of history. God used every detour to prepare Joseph for a destiny he couldn’t have imagined.

I remember my own season of exhaustion—physically, emotionally, and spiritually drained. I was doing everything I thought God had called me to do, pouring my heart into this dream I was so sure He gave me. But no matter how hard I worked, nothing seemed to happen. I felt stuck, questioning if I even heard God right. The frustration was real, and if I’m being honest, I was ready to quit.

And just when I thought I couldn’t take another step, God moved. He opened a door I didn’t even know existed, and it felt like everything shifted overnight. What I didn’t see at the time was that He had been preparing me all along. Every tear I cried, every disappointment I faced, every “no” I thought would break me—it was all part of His process. None of it was wasted. He was using it to mold me into who I needed to be for the promise He was about to fulfill.

Joseph’s promotion didn’t erase his journey—it gave it purpose. And the same God who was faithful to Joseph is faithful to you.

Your dream isn’t dead. The promise is still alive. What you’ve gone through wasn’t for nothing—it’s the foundation for what’s coming. God’s plans for your life are bigger than what you see right now. Trust Him. He’s not just the God of the promise; He’s the God of the process too.

Declaration: God, I believe that the dream You’ve placed in me is still alive.

Prayer: Father, thank You for being faithful. Help me to trust the process, even when it doesn’t make sense. Remind me that every step is leading me closer to the promise You’ve spoken over my life. I surrender my dreams to You, knowing that You are always on time.

Thought Questions:

  • What dream do you need to lay back at God’s feet today?

  • Where can you see God’s faithfulness in your journey so far?
